  • Honor the Fallen RUCK March! On May 27th 2016, Veterans, supporters and active duty military members will be rucking 22 miles with 22+ pound ruck sacks on their backs to honor our fallen heroes and to raise awareness of PTSD and Veteran suicide. This patriotic ruck march will begin at Veterans Memorial Park in Glencoe (299 Park Ave) at 8 AM and will end at Milton Lee Olive Park around 5PM. Our goal is to raise as much awareness and funds for Veterans and their families dealing with PTSD and the epidemic of Veteran suicide. No one will ever be forgotten! All funds will be donated to Chicago Veterans, a local non profit organization who is committed to building a strong, positive veteran community. If you’re as passionate about our cause as we are, we encourage you to create a fundraiser and help raise money for Chicago Veterans. • Chicago's Memorial Day Parade honors all men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. The Wreath Laying Ceremony will begin at 11am at the Eternal Flame on Daley Plaza (Dearborn and Washington Streets). The parade will step off at noon and proceed south on State Street from Lake Street to Van Buren Street. The City of Chicago will give special recognition to our fallen heroes and their survivors at the annual Wreath Laying Ceremony and Memorial Day Parade. Gold Star family members are identified by the Gold Star Lapel Pin and the Next of Kin Lapel Pin that are presented to families who have lost a loved one in the United States Armed Forces to combat operations or while on active duty. Approved by Congress beginning in 1947, the Gold Star Pins are not an award, but symbols of honor worn by family members in remembrance of their fallen loved ones and the ultimate sacrifice they made. The Chicago parade is considered one of the largest Memorial Day parades in the nation. Since 1870, Memorial Day parades have graced the streets of Chicago.
